Weatherwood attracting potential buyers from all over the country

The sale of Weatherwood, the Carbon CountyNursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Weatherly, is attracting companies from across the country.

During the county commissioners' meeting on Thursday, Randall Smith, county administrator and the man overseeing the tours at Weatherwood, said that a total of 14 companies have toured the 200-bed facility and the comments have been very positive.

He added that he thinks around five of those companies will submit bids.

The first round of offers for the property will be accepted until 5 p.m., Feb. 26. Those offers will then be reviewed by the board and Marcus & Millichap, Real Estate Investment Services of Philadelphia, the company hired by the county to handle the sale, to weed out unsuitable buyers.

Following the initial round, a second round of bidding will then begin.

The second round, which will be for final bids, will conclude at 5 p.m. March 12. The board will then again review all offers and determine which entity would make the best owner to take over the facility and provide continued care to the residents.

A final decision will be made by May 31, with closing and transfer of ownership by June 30.

Since the county put Weatherwood up on the market on Jan. 14, dozens of interested parties have inquired about the sale.

Carbon County officials have repeatedly said that they are continuing to look out for the employees and the residents at Weatherwood and are committed to selling the nursing home to a company that will run the operations in the same manner as the county has done over the last few decades.
