Carbon driver in Lehigh collision

Published February 13. 2010 09:00AM

A Carbon County driver was involved in a collision along a Lehigh County road. State police at Fogelsville said the crash occurred about 12:47 p.m. on Feb. 1 along Interstate 78 in Upper Saucon Township.

Troopers said Darryl L. Searcy, 51, of St. Louis, Mo., was driving a 2001 Kenworth tractor with trailer eastbound in the center lane while James L. Ealy Jr., 66, of Nesquehoning, was driving a 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon eastbound in the left lane. Troopers said Ealy changed from the left lane to the center lane without space between his vehicle and the rig. The tractor struck the left rear of the Volkswagen.

Upon impact the Volkswagen spun in a counter-clockwise direction into the left front of the rig striking the left front wheel flare. The Volkeswegan then went out of control into the left lane where it flipped and rolled over three times before coming to final rest.

Ealy suffered a moderate injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, troopers said. Searcy was not injured. Damages were disabling to the Volkswagen and minor to the rig.
