About The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was founded in 1855 as the first U.S. hospital dedicated to treating children's illnesses and injuries. At the time the hospital was founded, most infants and children were treated at home.
Since its founding, the hospital has created a pediatric health care network, treating children at nearly 50 locations throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. CHOP is also home to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute, one of the country's largest pediatric research organizations.
CHOP's superior knowledge in pediatric care has affected children and their families from throughout the country and also within our area. More than 1 million children visit the hospital each year.
When Albrightsville boy Michael Rossi was experiencing chest pain, he was quickly flown to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia because the hospital is known for its cardiac care.
Other specialties include oncology, neonatology (treating premature and critically ill infants), transplant care, and fetal diagnosis and treatment. The hospital was recently named "Best in the Nation" by U.S. News and World Report and Parents Magazine.
It's for this reason that Michael's sister, Meeghan Rossi, is raising funds for the hospital. When a child's life is in danger, they need the highest quality care that they can find.
Donations to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia can fund groundbreaking research into pediatric illnesses and care. Research is focused on both preventing and treating childhood disease. Donations also support patient care, allowing the hospital to offer financial assistance to families who cannot pay for health care.
"They could use the money, to help save kid's lives," explained Rossi. "The whole experience was amazing, the way Michael was treated. They work as a great team down there."
