Writers' group
The Black Diamond Writers' Network will meet Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Tamaqua Public Library, 30 S. Railroad St. Guest speaker will be Tisha Kulak-Tolar, freelance online writer and author of "GenX." Her topics will include ways to make a living as an online writer and how to use non-fiction writing as a springboard to fiction success.
The public is welcome to attend.
The BDWN is a nonprofit organization offering writing education and networking opportunities. The group meets the third Saturday of every month.

Class of 1978
The Tamaqua Area High School Class of 1978 will begin planning for its next reunion. An initial planning session will be held Feb. 27, at 5 p.m., at Schick's Cafe, Mauch Chunk Street. All class members are welcome to attend.

The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet this Thursday, at 7 p.m., at 230 Race St. Anyone interested in improving the ward is welcome to attend.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the TYM staff will meet at 11:45 a.m. and a worship service will be held at the Hometown Nursing Center at 2:30 p.m.
Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Prayer Time at 8:30 a.m. and GriefShare at 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Community Lenten service at noon, Tamaqua Youth Ministry at 6:30 p.m., adult Bible study at 6:30 p.m. and Finance Class at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, hoagie sale.
St. Peter's
The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Church Board will meet at 10:45 a.m. and the Confirmation Class will meet at 1 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, Women's Bible study at 6 p.m., Cadette Girl Scouts meet at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Daisy Scouts meet at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, mid week Lenten service, 7 p.m., Ben Salem Church; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m.
The choirs rehearse on Thursday. Next week's schedule will include: Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.
WP softball
The West Penn Girls Softball organization will be accepting applications for the coming season on Saturday, Feb. 20. Registrations will be held at the West Penn Municipal Building from 10 a.m. until noon. The league is open to all girls between the ages of 5-14.
