Two Schuylkill break-ins probed
State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating two break-ins of adjoining businesses in Schuylkill County.
Troopers said the Hawk Mountain General Store and the Reading Stove Company, both at 16 Summer Valley Road, in Orwigsburg, West Brunswick Township, were entered sometime between 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, and 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
Troopers said entry to the general store was made by unknown means. Once inside the criminals took money from a lock box and cash register drawer and an unknown amount of money from an ATM machine. Troopers said the ATM machine was destroyed in the incident and the criminals used some type of cutting device to enter the machine.
They also took about 100 cartons of cigarettes - Newport and Marlboro brands - from the store.
They then kicked in the door at the Reading Stove Company and removed a lock box containing about $120. The box was later found off the side of Coal Mountain Road.
Video surveillance cameras show at least two persons involved in the incident with a possible third suspect. The first suspect was shown on the video wearing a gray or white pants, possibly sweatpants, white sneakers and a white jacket with the hood covering his head and part of his face. The second suspect was wearing a dark-colored bandana covering his facial area, dark-colored jacket and pants with black shoes and a Halloween mask covering his face. He also had a hood up over his head.
Troopers said an unknown vehicle was reported seen in the area and parked in the Grace Bible Church of Hawk Mountain parking lot, which is located next to the general store.
Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 593-2000.
