Peter Noone, Rusted Root are coming to Penn's Peak
Five more concert events have been announced for Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, including Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits, the bluegrass rock band Rusted Root, the Motown sound of The Temptations, the "Ultimate 80s Tribute Band" Rubix Kube, and the ever popular Sha Na Na.
Concert dates are as follows:
* Rubix Kube, Friday, April 16, 9 p.m. Tickets $15 advance and $20 at the door.
* Rusted Root, Saturday, June 12, 8 p.m. Tickets $24 advance, $29 day of show. Tickets go on sale Saturday.
* Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone, Friday, July 9, 8 p.m. Tickets $32 and $27.
* The Temptations, Thursday, Sept. 23, 8 p.m. Tickets $33 and $28. Tickets go on sale March 27.
* Sha Na Na, Friday, Nov. 12, 8 p.m. Tickets $22 advance and $27 day of show. Tickets go on sale March 27.
The 80's are back with Rubix Kube!
Rubix Kube does covers from such artists as Aerosmith, Adam Ant, Pat Benatar, The Bangles, and Bon Jovi.
The band has taken NYC by storm and now they are branching out to Penn's Peak.
Rubix Kube is more than just a cover band; they are The Premiere 80's Tribute Band.
Totally decked out in their 80's attire, Cherie Martorana and Scott Lovelady leading the band, along with Eric Presti, Rich Forman, John LaSpina and Michael Maenza, will take you back to the time of mini skirts, leg warmers and valley girls.
One of the recent concerts by the band was at the 17th birthday party of Miley Cyrus.
Rusted Rootcame together in the early 90's in Pittsburgh. The music community quickly embraced them and their genre of roots music and world rock.
Their debut album was 1992's Cruel Sun which they self released. This album helped them get signed with Mercury Records and their 1994 debut album with Mercury got Rusted Root noticed. When I Woke became a platinum selling album and featured the hit songs "Send Me On My Way," "Ecstasy" and "Martyr."
This was their opening and soon after they were touring with the likes of Toad The Wet Sprocket, the Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band and they played at the H.O.R.D.E. Fest. Their most memorable and highly coveted support role was on the Jimmy Page/Robert Plant Reunion Tour.
Rusted Root is touring in support of their most recent album, 2009's Stereo Rodeo.
If you know anything about 60's music, you know about Herman's Hermits.
They've had well over a dozen major hits including "I'm Henry VIII, I Am," "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter," and "Kind of A Hush."
All in all, Herman's Hermits sold over 60 million recordings of which 14 singles and 7 albums went gold.
Over the years, Peter was everywhere; magazine covers, top rated TV shows, Broadway, feature films, a TV show host and even on the soap opera "As The World Turns."
Growing up in Manchester, England, Peter found himself a National and International star on all levels. All this publicity contributed to Herman's Hermits twice being named Cashbox's "Entertainer of The Year."
The Temptations had quite a string of hits including "My Girl," "I Wish It Would Rain," and "Get Ready."
Known for their great lead singers and their signature walk which became a staple of American style with its flair, flash and class, The Temptations are still making the great music they began some 40 years ago in Detroit. They are an essential staple of the Motown music scene, which was invented by Berry Gordy.
Their classic lineup was Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin.
Their current line-up consists of Otis Williams, Terry Weeks, G.C. Cameron, Ron Tyson and Joe Herndon.
Sha Na Na is celebrating their40th anniversary.
They are touring in conjunction with the release of their latest CD, Sha Na Na 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition.
Sha Na Na's success can be heard in clubs and concert halls and be seen in movies and on TV. They performed at Woodstock, starred in the most successful movie musical, Grease, hosted their own TV series entitled "Sha Na Na" and they still manage to play more than 100 concerts per year.
The nucleus of Sha Na Na were undergraduate members of The Kingsmen.The Kingsmen were a glee club ensemble that performed a cappella versions of 50's rock songs as part of their performances. These shows became increasingly popular and, eventually, rock-n-roll took over and they added instruments and became Sha Na Na. Their name was taken from the 50's Silhouettes hit "Get A Job."
