Tamaqua driver facing charges
A Tamaqua man faces charges following an accident in Tamaqua on Thursday, March 18.
Michael Mayer, of Pottsville, was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle south on Center Street (SR309) when a 1990 Chevrolet Blazer turned in front of him into the Fegley Mini Mart lot. Mayer "laid down" the bike in order to avoid a direct impact and the Blazer continued in to the lot.
Police responded to the scene and identified the driver of the Blazer as Joseph Ames, of Mahanoy Street, Tamaqua. Ames exhibited signs of intoxication and was taken in to custody. Officers discovered one full and five empty beer cans in the Blazer and two baggies on Ames' person. One baggie contained a white powder suspected to be cocaine while a second was filled with a green vegetable matter.
Ames was transported to a Pottsville Hospital for blood tests.
Charges are pending test results.
