Program for Catholics

The three area Catholic churches will participate in "Encountering the Merciful Savior," an effort to increase the number of Catholics who receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Programs will take place on Tuesdays from 5-7 p.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Nesquehoning; Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Fridays from 10-11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Summit Hill; and on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Fridays from 6-7 p.m. in St. Katharine Drexel Church, Lansford.

Senior centeractivities

The Panther Valley Senior Center in Nesquehoning has listed its March activities and all are invited to join in the group.

March 1 horse racing at 11 a.m.; March 2 line dancing in morning and Sunshine meeting after lunch; March 3 pay bingo at 11 a.m. Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m.

On March 8 bring in a dollar item for bingo at 11 a.m.; March 9 line dancing in the morning and an ice cream social after lunch; March 10 sing-a-long at 11 a.m.; March 11 blood pressure screenings; March 12 penny game at 11 a.m.

On March 15 pool and card games; March 16 line dancing in the morning and Wii bowling after lunch; March 17 St. Patrick's Day Party at 11 a.m.; March 18 pay bingo at 11 a.m.; March 19 shopping at 9:30 a.m., and the center will be closed.

On March 22 birthdays and bingo at 11 a.m.; March 23 Mt. Airy bus trip leaves from CVS at 10 a.m. and the center will be closed; March 24 shooting darts; March 25 Fancy Drink day; March 26 dice at 11 a.m.

On March 29 lottery bingo at 11 a.m.; March 30 line dancing in the morning; March 31 Easter Party at 11 a.m.

PV Golden agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers will resume meetings beginning Monday, March 8 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hall in Summit Hill, weather permitting.

Practice for the chorus will be held at 11 a.m. on the same day at St. Joseph's Hall.

Members celebrating birthdays in December, January, February, and March will be recognized at this meeting.

Anyone 55 and older are encouraged to join. Dues of $3 are now being collected for the year 2010.

PV class of 2010

The Panther Valley High School Class of 2010 parents will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the high school library.

Topics of discussion will be the current pierogie sale and a schedule will be set for the decorating committee to begin meeting at the Coaldale Complex.

All ideas and suggestions for the All Night Party to benefit the seniors are welcome.

Lansford

Bloodmobile results

A recent bloodmobile drive sponsored by St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, had successful results.

There were 44 donors who reported to the church hall, with 32 units having been received and 12 deferrals due to medical reasons.

The blood went to the Miller-Keystone Blood Bank, which supplies blood to all of the area hospitals.

OLOA registration

Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford, is currently accepting registrations for the 2010-11 school year. Parents can register their child weekdays between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the school. Other arrangements will be made if the times are inconvenient for parents, who can call (570) 645-7170 or 645-7101 for additional information.

Children registering for kindergarten must be 5 years old by Oct. 15 following the September in which they will enter school. First graders must be 6 years old by that date.

Parents registering their child(ren) must bring the child's birth certificate, baptismal certificate, immunization records and a registration fee.

Lansford sign-ups

The Lansford Baseball Association will hold registration sessions for the 2010 season on March 2, 3 and 4 from 6-8 p.m. at the American Legion Post Home.

Registrations will be accepted for the T-ball, Little League, 10-14 year old girls' softball and Babe Ruth programs. Parents and players are asked to use the side entrance.

A copy of a birth certificate is needed for first-time players. Registration fees will be collected and fundraisers will be distributed.

NCFC auxiliary

The Ladies Auxiliary to the New Columbus Fire Company will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 2 at 7 p.m. at the fire station.

President Gerry McConnon will preside. The hospitality committee will be Wilma Rose, Lucy Turrano and Minnie Kennedy.
