Wins tax appeal

Timothy P. Brennan, owner of the premises situated at 347 Nichols St., Pottsville, won his appeal in court from the assessment on his property.

The Schuylkill County Board of Assessment fixed the market value at $30,020 and based on the 50 percent assessment ratio fixed by the county, the property was assessed at $15,010.

At a hearing held in court, Brennan testified that the dwelling has no utilities, crumbling walls, ceilings and floor, and no working indoor plumbing. There is no access to the garage, which is blocked by a guiderail from SR61.

He said he the premises are unliveable.

Judge Domalakes found the testimony competent and reduced the market value to $3,500 and fixed the assessment at $1,750.
