Rescheduled events

The snows of last week did indeed change schedules all around. Among the changes, the Pleasant Valley School Board will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at the district office in Brodheadsville

The Night of Unity that was to be held at PVHS last week was also postponed. It will now be held this Thursday, March 4, from to 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Church restoration

Not postponed was the beginning of the restoration work at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, a 12-week process according to property Chairman Charles Rush. Men and women were busy moving and undoing this past Saturday to get ready for the whole project, which will be under the direction of Lubor Gergel.

Caregivers support

Sponsored in Association with the Alzheimer's Association, the Caregiver's Support Group will meet from 6:30 -8 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, at the Loder Building in East Stroudsburg, on the first floor.

Senior care

Stages of Senior Care will be the topic for a presentation at the Chestnuthill Senior Center, now meeting at Zion Lutheran's complex in Brodheadsville, on Friday, March 5.

The free presentation is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

Tax Assistance

Continuing this week and through April, will be the AARP Tax Assistance work by the Lehighton unit at Salem UCC in Gilbert. The AARP volunteers will be there from 9 a.m. to noon, Mondays and Thursdays.

Should the Pleasant Valley School District have a two-hour delay, the volunteers will be there from 10 a.m. to noon.

Addresses needed

Bill Marks of Brodheadsville reminds the community that names and addresses of area troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, who are to be recipients of Operation Touch of Home May 2010 essentials shipment, are needed.

Family members or friends with this information are asked to contact touchofhome@hotmail.com or mail information to Operation: Touch of Home, P. O. Box 162, Brodheadsville, PA 18322.

Information should include: the GI's name, rank, address and deploy dates, which are critical. Also provide contact information of the provider.

Volunteers are needed.

Driver Safety

The 8-hour AARP Driver Safety Program is again being offered at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville. Class is set for 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 20 and March 27. For more information or to register, call (570) 619-4006.

Spelling Bee

The Monroe County Senior Spelling Bee, for persons 55 years of age and older, has been announced for April 30, at the Eastern Monroe Public Library. The first place winner will receive a $100 prize; the second place winner, a $50 prize.

Registration must be made with the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging by April 23.

This will be the fifth annual such event.

Condolences

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Katherine "Kat" Woods. She passed away last week.
