Council looking for someone to fill Vacancy Board seat

Published February 18. 2010 05:00PM

Lansford Borough Council is looking a few good women and men to apply for the position of Vacancy Board chair.

The unpaid job must be held by someone who is a registered voter, but who is not a borough official.

"Letters of interest" should be sent to the borough office at 26 East Patterson Street Lansford, PA 18232-1401.

They must be in to the borough office by March 5.

The Vacancy Board fills empty elective offices - mayoral, council, auditor, controller, assessor or tax collector.

The vacancies can occur through death, resignation, removal from office or other reasons.

When that happens, council has 30 days to appoint a replacement.

If council can't do that for any reason, the Vacancy Board steps in and has 15 additional days to fill the empty seat.

The Vacancy Board consists of council and one registered voter who is not an elected official.
