Driver facing DUI after crash
A driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash. It was one of two DUI arrests reported by state police at Frackville along Schuylkill County roadways.
Troopers said Sherri Knapp, 38, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on SR924 about 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, just south of Sheppton, in East Union Township. For unknown reasons she entered the northbound lane, spun off the road, and struck a dirt ditch and some rocks causing the car to overturn along the northbound shoulder.
Troopers said Knapp was injured and taken to the Hazleton General Hospital. Troopers said she will be charged with DUI and roadways laned for traffic with additional charges pending.
Also on Saturday, about 9:24 p.m., troopers observed a vehicle traveling northbound on 924 in North Union Township and making a left turn onto School House Road, without yielding to a marked state police cruiser, which was southbound. A traffic stop was made and the driver was identified as Kenneth E. Johnson III, 37, of Nuremberg. He was found to be under the influence and was placed under arrest. The DUI charge is pending, troopers said.
