Area tennis teams suffer setbacks

Pleasant Valley, Lehighton and Palmerton all suffered tennis losses on Wednesday.

East Stroudsburg South opened its tennis season with a win, as it defeated Pleasant Valley 6-1 in MVC play.

Dan Galante was the only Bear to score a victory on the day. He defeated Adrian Garcia in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

PM East-Lehighton

The Cardinals knocked off the Indians in their first tennis match of the year, winning 5-2 in MVC action.

Lehighton's two wins came from its doubles teams of James Sverchek/Nick Mantz and Deb Lobien/Jess Lobien. Sverchek and Mantz won their pro-set 8-6, while the Lobiens won their respective match, 5-7, 7-5, 7-6.

The Green Knights handed the Blue Bombers a 4-1 setback in their Colonial League opener.

Jimmy Apgar, the No. 3 singles player for Palmerton, got the lone win for his team. He defeated Nathaniel Lee, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
