Schuylkill driver cited after crash

A Schuylkill County driver was cited following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 12:55 p.m. on Monday, March 22, along SR1003 at SR1010, in Mahanoy Township.

State police at Frackville said John Whalen, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 1989 Plymouth Voyager westbound and failed to stop at the intersection with 1010. The vehicle entered a wooded area off the road and struck several trees and came to rest.

Whalen was not injured but his passenger, Thomas Macaluso, also of Mahanoy City, who was not wearing a seat belt, complained of chest pain and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville. Troopers said damages were light to the vehicle but it did require towing.

Troopers said Whalen would be cited.
