Pennsylvanias eligible for rebates for buying energy efficient furnaces and water heaters
Nearly 33,000 Pennsylvanians will be eligible for rebates of $100 to $500 for purchasing new Energy Star-rated electric residential hot water heaters, furnaces and boilers as part of a new rebate program beginning in April.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) program will administer $11 million in federal funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which Congress passed last year.
The new rebate program will serve as a complement to the already existing or planned rebate programs available to residents of Pennsylvania for other traditional appliances such as refrigerators and dishwashers. Overall, DEP estimates that this program could benefit as many as 33,000 Pennsylvanians and could create up to 120 jobs as a result of an increased demand for heating equipment and installation work.
The size of the applicants' rebate will be determined based on the equipment's Energy-Star efficiency rating.
Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping individuals and families save money and protect the environment though energy efficient products and practices.
The program will be administered by Resource Solutions Group, a woman owned environmental consulting firm based in Pittsburgh. The final details of the rebate program will be released in April. The official rules, guidelines and application will be posted on the Pennsylvania Recovery Act website at http:www.recovery.pa.gov.
