Franklin Township plans to sell used 1990 Mack garbage truck

Published March 17. 2010 05:00PM

Franklin Township supervisors have hopes to sell off a used garbage truck.

The truck, a 1990 Mack with a 1993 Heil packer will be sold by sealed bids.

Chairman Rod Green said that the township is selling the truck because the township has a new garbage truck and no longer uses the old one.

The board also voted to institute a lawsuit against Paul Heere Jr. and Linda Smith regarding on-lot retention facilities at their Long Run Road property. The board also granted a time extension for installation of on-lot storm-water retention facility on Christopher Heere's property, also located on Long Run Road. The Christopher Heere family has until July 1 to comply.

Chairman Rod Green said that the properties require on-lot storm-water retention ponds. He said that while on family was granted an extension because it plans to comply, while the other family has made no indication that it plans to install the proper ponds to hold storm-water.

The board also received correspondence from the Poho Poco Rod and Gun Club asking to be notified when plans are made to dredge the ponds at the Phifer Ice Dam Park so that the club does not stock the dam with fish shortly before the work begins.

Chairman Green said the no official date has been set for the dredging project.

The club conducted three trout stockings in 2009, when 11 to 13-inch trout were released into the Poho Poco Creek and the Phifer Ice Dam Park. Last August the club also released similar size trout in the Poho Poco Creek. The October stocking released 500 five to six inch brown trout fingerlings into the Poho Poco Creek. With the 450 adult fish from other stockings, the club released 950 last year.

The club also conducted a stream and stream bank clean up of the Poho Poco Creek from the base of Beltzville Dam to the Route 209 bridge. The clean up efforts removed a large trailer of unwanted bottles, cans, tires and fisherman trash. The club is planning to do the clean up again in the spring.

The club meets every month at the Franklin Township Municipal Building.
