Tamaqua rape

Tamaqua police are investigating a reported rape/sexual assault that occurred Friday evening in the area of the iron steps leading Rowe Street to Lafayette Street.

According to police, a Tamaqua woman was using the stairway, located between Trinity United Church of Christ and the Citizen's Fire Company, at approximately 8 p.m. when she was approached from behind by a white male. The man reportedly grabbed the woman, sexually assaulted her, then fled down the stairway to Rowe Street.

The suspect is described as tall, approximately six feet, with short, crew cut, black hair and scruffy facial hair.
