Crashes probed by PSP Lehighton
State police at Lehighton reported on crashes investigated by troopers over the past weekend.
On Friday, April 2, about 5:05 p.m. a two vehicle crash occurred along SR209 at the intersection with Evergeen Drive, in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Donald F. Stemler, 82, of Palmerton, was stopped on Evergeen and attempted to cross 209 when his 2007 Toyota Camry was struck by a southbound 2002 Ford Focus driven by Joyce E. Smith, 82, of Kresgeville.
Stemler, Smith and her passenger, Amandus F. Smith, 87, same address, were all injured and taken to the Blue Mountain Health Systems Gnaden Huetten Campus, Lehighton, by Palmerton ambulance. Troopers said Stemler was cited for stop sign violation.
Also on Friday, about 4:15 p.m. a crash occurred alnog SR209, near Hideaway Hill Road, in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a vehicle was stopped waiting for another vehicle to turn left. The driver then started to drift back and hit the front of a 2008 Ford Taurus driven by Karen J. Mongi, 47, of Lehighton. The other driver then pulled ahead and left the scene going southbound on 209. Mongi was not injured.
A crash occurred about 5:20 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, along Lauchnor Road at the intersection with SR895, in East Penn Township, Carbon County. Troopers said John C. Mulea, 61, of Bethlehem, was driving a 2009 XVS65 VStar motorcycle westbound and made a left turn onto Lauchnor from 895. Mulea lost control on the gravel with the bike going onto the berm and into a ditch.
Mulea sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Palmerton Hospital for treatment.
