State position
Roland S. Vonderheide of the West End of Monroe County has been appointed as the new Pennsylvania AARP Driver Safety Program (DSP) state coordinator. He has previously served as instructor and as district coordinator for the program.
Dinner Meeting
The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet Wednesday, April 21, at The Hamilton in Saylorsburg, beginning with a social time at 6:30 and dinner at 7 p.m.
Barletta to Speak
The West End Rotary will host Lou Barletta, at its breakfast meeting on Thursday, April 22. His topic will be "Freedom."
The club meets at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville at 7:30 a.m.
School Board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, April 22, in the district offices in Brodheadsville.
30-hour Famine
The Youth Group at Effort United Methodist Church will be participating in the 30-hour Famine, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 23, and continuing through Sunday, April 25, at noon.
The youth will go without food during this time to help bring awareness to hunger, not only locally, but worldwide. The 30-hour famine is a part of World Vision.
In light of a child dying every several seconds as the consequence of hunger, the youth hope to make an impact on that statistic.
For every single dollar raised, a child is fed for a day.
Effort's youth used various methods to raise funds, including "selling" cookies at church for $1 each this past Sunday.
Spring Pops
The Pleasant Valley Choral Society will present its "Spring Pops 10 You Must Remember This" at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 24, and Sunday at 3 p.m., at the Pleasant Valley High School in Brodheadsville.
Academic Fair
Pleasant Valley's Academic fair will take place at the high school in Brodheadsville on Monday, April 26. It will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Retirement program
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans local personnel will present a free educational program on retirement at Zion United Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville for any member of the community on Sunday, May 16.
Although the session is free, registration is required. One can contact Bob Argot at (570) 629-5718 to register or e-mail him at rgargot@verizon.net by May 9.
The information will be offered by presenters including Jeffrey Gilbert, Thrivent Financial representative, and Harold Ziegler, ChFC, FIC, financial consultant.
