Details of Tamaqua crash released

Published April 02. 2010 05:00PM

Tamaqua police have released details of a March 24 multi-car accident at the intersection of Spruce and Center (SR309) streets.

After lengthy interviews with the involved parties and witnesses, officers determined the accident was caused by a motorist who was attempting to go around a stopped car.

A Dodge Durango operated by Tyler Groner, of West Penn Township, was traveling north on Center, in the left turn lane, when a southbound vehicle, operated by George Herring of Tamaqua, stopped to make a left turn toward the Rite Aid Store.

Groner started to turn when a southbound Chevrolet Cavalier, operated by Richard Ritter Jr., of Tamaqua, attempted to pass Herring's vehicle on the right. The Dodge and Chevrolet impacted in the intersection.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damages and were towed from the scene.
