Tamaqua tops Thorpe
Tamaqua rallied to edge Jim Thorpe in softball on Saturday. In other action, Pleasant Valley picked up baseball and softball victories.
BASEBALL
Liberty-Pleasant Vy.
Pleasant Valley took advantage of Liberty's wildness on the mound and posted an 8-3 non-league victory.
The Bears, who only collected six hits, received 14 walks and was hit by two pitches in the win.
Pat Kregeloh had two hits, one a double, and scored two runs for the winners while Derrik Walling and Drew Borger each had a hit and scored twice. Jake Chamberlain chipped in with a hit, three walks and two RBIs, and Chris D'Arcy also knocked in two runs.

SOFTBALL
Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua
Jordan Nowacki's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Tamaqua to a 10-9 come-from-behind victory over visiting Jim Thorpe.
Julia Mason helped the Olympians' build a 9-5 lead after two and a half innings of play. Mason sparked the attack by delivering a RBI single in the second and a RBI double in the third. Teammate Rhiannon Milliard chipped in with two singles, a run scored, a walk and a RBI.
Nowacki pulled the Blue Raiders within one in the fourth by drilling a two-run homer. The Blue Raiders' Sarah Zehner added a run-scoring double in the sixth to tie the game at 9-9 and also had a triple earlier in the game.

Schuylkill Haven 'walked' past Panther Valley, 16-3, in Schuylkill League action.
The Hurricanes and Panthers both had six hits in the game, but Haven benefitted from 12 base on balls to post the mercy-rule victory.
Ashtin Walck had a pair of singles to lead Panther Valley offensively.

Liberty-Pleasant Vy.
A six-run fifth inning activated the mercy rule as Pleasant Valley rolled to a 10-0 non-conference win over Liberty.
Hayli Marini paced the Bears with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate. She finished with two doubles, a single, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Jordan Borger added a single, double, a run scored and a RBI, while Diane Klaypatch had two singles, a run scored and two RBIs.
The Bears move to 15-2 on the season.

Schuylkill Relays
Tamaqua won a tight race for the girls overall team title at the 40th Annual Schuylkill County Relays at Pottsville's Veterans Memorial Stadium Friday night.
The Lady Raiders finished with 56 team points, edging out Blue Mountain (55) and Hazleton (53). Lehighton was fourth with 39 points, while Jim Thorpe finished tied for seventh with 36 points.
For the Raider girls, Allison Updike teamed with Christine Streisel to win the javelin competition with a combined distance of 266 feet, one inch. Updike also combined with Stacey Wallace to win the discus with a total distance of 187 feet, 8 1/2 inches.
Tamaqua's other first place finish was in the 3.200 meter relay, with the quartet of Kelsey Patrick, Cecily Kohlmeir, Dana Ansbach and Amber Carroll winning with a season's best time of 9:56.8.
Lehighton (Terembula, Frey, Schweizer, Rimbey) won the 400 relay in 50.7..
The Jim Thorpe girls won the medley relay (200, 200, 400, 800) with a time of 4:26.4. The Olympians' quartet included Ashley Nicola, JaAshia Page, Hilary Reis and Kayla Susko.
Blue Mountain was the boys team champion with 84 points. Jim Thorpe finished third with 45 points and Lehighton was sixth with 30.
The Olympian boys produced three firsts in the boys meet.
Thorpe won the medley relay with P.J. Johnson, Carl St. Hill, Alex Garcia and Kareem Mickens placing first at 3:35.2, and the quartet of Mickens, Garcia, Shawn Lignore and St. Hill won the 1,600 relay in 3:31.
Johnson and Garcia combined to win the long jump with a total distance of 38-10 1/2.
