Sorority news

Members of the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met May 5 at the home of Diane Pruett. As members enjoyed the warm weather on the patio, Pruett presented a program on pedicures, providing each member with a personal pedicure kit.

Members discussed a clothing driving, with dates to be announced.

Donna Sterling was presented with an award for having the Best Program during the past year. Other awards were presented at the Beta Sigma Phi Founder's Day celebration, held in April at the Roman Delight Restaurant, Orwigsburg. The celebration included the presentation of perfect attendance awards and naming Mary Machay as the Girl of the Year.

The next regular meeting will be held at the home of Patti Confer and will include installation of officers and a Secret Sister Birthday celebration. The meeting year will be closed out on June 16, with a celebration at a Japanese restaurant.

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua on May 26. The social hall of St. John United Church of Christ, Pine and Biddle streets, will serve as the collection site. Hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health is eligible to donate blood.

This visit is being sponsored by Bittner's General Store, Tamaqua.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Music Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will be followed by a meeting of the old fashioned picnic committee. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Church Board will meet at 10:45 a.m., the Confirmation Class will rehearse and have photos taken at 1 p.m., the Cub Scouts will meet at 5 p.m. and the Cub Scout Committee will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m

The choirs rehearse on Thursday: Next week's schedule includes: Cherubs at 6:30 p.m., Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also Sunday, an evening of praise and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.

An evening of prayer and sharing will be held next Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Sonquest Rainforest Vacation Bible School is scheduled for June 7-11 at Calvary EUM, held jointly with Zion's Church of the Lewistown Valley. Hours will be from 6 to 8:15 p.m. each evening at the VBS is open to children between the age of two years and sixth grade.

Notre Dame Club

The Notre Dame Club of Schuylkill County will meet May 16, at 5 p.m., at the Gordon Fire Company, Gordon.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavellero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The joint service with Salem UM will include a performance by the Heidelberg Handbell Choir.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Senior Choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

May 23 is Camping Sunday. The Rev. Ron Shane will deliver the message at the 9:30 a.m. service in salem UM and the 10:45 a.m. service in First UM.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, worship services will be held at the Hometown Nursing Center at 2:30 p.m. and at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, TYM Praise Event at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, Couple's Bible study at 7 p.m.; Saturday, MIA event at 8:30 a.m.
