Adult day care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center is seeking volunteers to serve on its board of directors. The board meets one evening per month. Anyone interested in serving on the board of directors may call (570) 668-6556. April 12-16 is Adult Day Care Awareness Week.

Activities planned for the month of April include: April 13, worship service; April 15, monthly birthday party; April 16, wear your PJ's to work day and sing a long with Audrey Christ; April 20, show and tell; April 21, cooking class; April 26, trip to the dollar store; April 30, visit from St. Jerome's kindergarten class.

In addition to weekly sing-alongs and social games, hairstyling and manicure services are available. Both require advance notice.

Daily activities include exercise, reality orientation, remotivational and reminiscent therapy, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack.

Recycling

Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.

All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.

Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.

Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.

Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.

Census help

Help is available at two Tamaqua locations for anyone needing help filling out the 2010 Federal Census Form.

A representaive is available at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St., Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, or at the Scheller Student Center at LCCC, 301 Van Gelder St., Monday through Friday, 1 to 4 p.m.

Census forms are available for those who may not have received one in the mail.

TOPS

The Tamaqua Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., in the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St. The meeting includes a short business session and a program.
