Two vehicles were severely damaged and required towing from the scene of an accident on Thursday at 3:37 p.m. on Route 61 in New Castle Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at the Frackville barracks said the crash happened in the area of the Gasway business when a 1994 Plymouth Voyager operated by a 17-year-old Mahanoy City boy, traveling south on Rt. 61, attempted to turn left into the business. Police said another southbound vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Neon driven by Ryan J. Engle, 18, of Ringtown, struck the Voyager in the rear, pushing it into the parking lot. The Neon traveled about 500 feet south and came to rest on the west berm.

Police said both drivers and a passenger in the van, identified as Nathan Forker, 26, of Shenandoah, were injured an transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center, Pottsville, for evaluation.
