NCFC auxiliary

The ladies auxiliary to the New Columbus Fire Company will meet on Tuesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. in the fire station. Gerry McConnon, president, reminds everyone to bring their hoagie papers.

The hospitality committee will be Nancy Canzoneri and Martha Ciarvella.

Loyalty Day

Everyone is invited to the annual Loyalty Day on Saturday, May 1 at 6 p.m. at the Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008.

A social hour will follow the program. All auxiliary members planning to attend are reminded to bring a dessert item.

Awards will be presented for a regular, veteran social, social and auxiliary members. A plaque will be presented to a local business.

Summit Hill

St. Paul Lutheran

The schedule for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, for next week is as follows:

Sunday, May 2, - worship service, 10:30 a.m.; and Confirmation class, 6:30 p.m.

Monday, May 3 - 11 a.m. W.E.L.C.A./Women's Auxiliary meeting will be held at the home of Donnas Miller at 11 a.m.

Tuesday, May 4 - D.O.C.S. meeting, 7 p.m.

League to meet

The Anthracite Little League (Summit Hill and Nesquehoning) will meet on Sunday, May 4, at 6 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Hall. President Roobhenn Smith will be in charge of the session and asks all parents, coaches and officers to attend.

Absentee voting

Registered voters for the May 18 Primary Election who are unable to get to the voting precincts due to absence from the municipality or medical reasons can vote by absentee ballot. The deadline for applying for an absentee ballot is Tuesday, May 11.

Members of the Jeffersonian Democratic Club are available to assist anyone who wants an absentee ballot application.

Authority notice

In the interest of coordination of construction/rehabilitation work between the borough and homeowners, the Summit Hill Water Authority requests property owners who will be doing sidewalk work at their properties, to contact the authority office.

Authority members point out that things like curb stops and line work can be performed in coordination with a property owners' work, as opposed to having to tear up new construction after it is completed for municipal service purposes.

Scripture sharing

St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, has resumed its weekly scripture sharing program. A session is scheduled for 7 o'clock tonight in the rectory.

Presbyterian church

The schedule for the Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, Summit Hill, for Sunday, May 2, is as follows: junior choir, 8:45 a.m.; adult Bible class, 9 a.m.; Sunday school, 9:15 a.m.; and service of worship, 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Frederick Rogers, pastor, presiding. Child care will be provided.

Lansford

Lansford Alive

The board of directors of Lansford Alive met April 22 at Rosie's Restaurant, reviewing potential projects to be funded with funds remaining from the Rural Business Enterprise Grant.

The board decided to meet with a representative of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development Initiative, the funding source.

The meeting will be scheduled for the very near future in order to receive approval for the suggested projects.

The next regular meeting of Lansford Alive, general membership, will be held May 13, at 6:30 p.m., at Rosie's Restaurant. Light refreshments will be served.

Local business owners and interested members of the community are welcome to attend.
