The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will hold its last meeting of the school year on Monday, at 6 p.m., at Schick's Cafe on Mauch Chunk Street. The meeting will be followed by a dinner, starting at 7 p.m.

An elementary school dance, for students in grades three through five, will be held today, from 7-9 p.m., at the school on Boyle Avenue.

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. will hold its annual banquet on May 11, at noon, at the Ryan Township Fire Company.

The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.

Freshmen orientation

Tamaqua Area High School Principal RuthAnn Gardiner announces a freshman orientation will be held for students and parents of incoming freshman for the 2010-11 school year. The orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19, at 7 p.m., in the Tamaqua Area School District Auditorium.

Zion Lewistown

Members of Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley will participate in a joint Mother's Day service this Sunday, at 10 a.m., at Christ Church, McKeansburg. Breakfast will be served prior to the service, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

The youth group will meet at Christ Church, McKeansburg, today, from 7 to 10 p.m.

Calvary UM

The Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. In honor of Mother's Day, special music will be presented by an all male choir. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also Sunday, an evening of praise and Bible study will begin at 6:30 p.m.

An evening of prayer and sharing will be held next Wednesday at 7 p.m.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavellero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Senior Choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

On May 16, the Heidelberg Handbell Choir will perform during the 10:45 a.m. service.

St. John UCC

The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. Nursery service is available during the service.

A time of fellowship will be held following the service. The weekly service is broadcast on radio station WLSH, AM1410, at 11:30 a.m. Sundays.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, Rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, TYM and prayer and Bible study meet at 6:30 p.m.

Primitive Methodist

The Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. A children's sermon will be included.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m.

First Steps, a support group for mothers with young children, meets the first Tuesday of every month, at 6 p.m., at Primitive Methodist Church.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. service this Mother's Day Sunday in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mothers will be presented with a small gift and the Angel Choir will be recognized. Sunday school and Confirmation classes meet at 10:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, Bells will rehearse at noon.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, Council meeting at 7 p.m., deadline for the June/July Messenger; Thursday, La Dolce Casa benefit day for Luther's Angels Relay For Life Team

The choirs will rehearse on Thursday: Senior Choir at 6:30 p.m., Chimes at 6:45 p.m. and Youth Choir at 7:30 p.m.

Trinity UCC

The Rev. Dr. David Grant will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Mother's Day Sunday in Trinity United Church of Christ. The service will include words for young Christians and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Nursery care is available during the service. Sunday school classes will meet at 8:45 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, Consistory meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Bible study at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Senior Choir rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m.
