Published April 28. 2010 05:00PM

Vila SpiderHawk, author of three books of stories of young girls and wise women and magical characters all reflecting a reverence for the divine in every woman will speak at the Dimmick Library Annex at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 8.

SpiderHawk's books are: Hidden Passages: Tales to Honor the Crones, a collection of eight uplifting stories about girls and women who, when faced with life's challenges, turn to their cultural grandmothers for comfort and advice; Forest Song: Finding Home, about a girl, Judy Baumann, in Eastern Europe in 1929 who struggles to escape to her true home in the woods where she finds her power and becomes a woman.

Forest Song: Little Mother, is a continuation of the Judy Baumann story where she helps fleeing Jewish refugees and continues her personal growth.

SpiderHawk will discuss and sign copies of her books, and introduce her new cookbook Forest Song Cookbook, in which characters from each novel share favorite recipes.

SpiderHawk is a retired teacher, an avid gardener, and a gourmet vegan cook. She will be at the Dimmick Library Annex house, 58 Broadway in downtown Jim Thorpe, two doors up from the Dimmick Library. Refreshments will be served, including a sampling of one of her soups.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Dimmick Library, this event is free and open to the public. Call (570) 325-2131 for more information.
