Schuylkill driver facing DUI count

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 8:56 p.m. on Friday, May 14, along SR924 at the Gilberton on-ramp in Gilberton.

State police at Frackville said John McAndrew, 46, of Gordon, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Express van northbound and attempted to pass another vehicle at the ramp. The van struck a 2006 Pontiac SUV on the driver's side. After impact McAndrew did not stop but continued onto SR924 with the driver of the struck vehicle following him.

McAndrew finally stopped in the lot of an Advance Auto store. He was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. He was then taken to the barracks where a breath test showed he was over the legal limit of .08 percent, troopers said.
