Night of the arts
The Tamaqua Area Middle School presents "Night of the Arts" this Thursday, May 6, beginning at 6 p.m. The evening will include the annual student art show, a professional exhibit and the Spring Choral Concert.
The art show will be held from 6-7:30 p.m.in the south wing of the Tamaqua Area Middle School. In addition to the art work from students in grades 6, 7 and 8, a professional exhibit, "Art Beyond Borders," will showcase the work of 24 artists from 24 different countries.
The Spring Choral Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., in the school district auditorium.
Senior news
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met last week with 85 members in attendance. One new member, Nancy Gerber, was welcomed to the group. The business session was conducted by President Jean Machamer.
Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "His Presence." Secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld offered her weekly report. Vice President Doris Brobst added Jane Tartar and Helene Clouser to the sick list. Mae Hope was welcomed back
The next meeting will be held May 6, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.
Praise event
Tamaqua Youth Ministries will perform a Praise Event May 19, at 6:30 p.m., at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 223 E. Broad St. Light refreshments will be served.
St. Peter's Union
The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include a Joyous Noise Offering. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Confirmation Class will rehearse and have photos taken at 1 p.m. and the Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, food co-op at 9 a.m.; Tuesday, Called to Care Committee meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees' meeting at 10 a.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Worship and Music Committee meets at 6 p.m. and Brownies meet at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, Youth Group will meet at 6 p.m.
The choirs rehearse on Thursday: Next week's schedule includes: Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.
Class of 1970
The Tamaqua High School Class of 1970 will hold a reunion in celebration of its 40th anniversary. The event will be held Sept. 11, from 6-11 p.m., at the Tamaqua Elks. The evening will include a buffet meal, cash bar and music. Dress will be informal.
