Woman arrested in domestic dispute

A Tamaqua woman was arrested following a domestic dispute on May 25.

Barbara Bankes-Terry, 43, of Bowe Street, was charged with aggravated assault, a felony, and simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment, all misdemeanors, following the incident at 8:46 a.m.

The victim, Joseph Terry, called 911 and reported that his wife had assaulted him. When police arrived at the scene Bankes-Terry was outside in her car with a 24-inch baton on the passenger seat. She was asked to stay in the car while police secured the baton.

The victim reported that he had been scratched and punched by his wife during a scuffle around the house and at one time she grabbed a rifle and pointed it at him before throwing the gun downstairs, police said.

Bankes-Terry came to the police station to drop off a protection from abuse (PFA) order and was arrested after a warrant was issued against her. Her husband had filed a written statement against her and requested she be arrested. She was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, who set bail at $25,000 unsecured.
