Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met May 11 at the Ryan Township Fire Company to celebrate its 31st anniversary. There were 48 members in attendance. Refreshments were provided by A and C Catering.
President Eleanor Schmerfeld opened the event and Vice President Rhoda Purnell, a charter member, read the minutes from the very first meeting on May 23, 1979. She also provided a list of everyone who was a member at that time.
The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.
Class of 1970
The Tamaqua High School Class of 1970 will hold a reunion in celebration of its 40th anniversary. The event will be held Sept. 11, from 6-11 p.m., at the Tamaqua Elks. The evening will include a buffet meal, cash bar and music. Dress will be informal.

St. Jerome's
The St. Jerome's Finance Committee will meet at 7 p.m. today.
The St. Vincent DePaul Society will meet Thursday, 7 p.m., in the alumni room.
Training for altar servers will be offered this Wednesday and May 26, at 8 p.m., in the church. All current and new altar servers are required to attend.
Vacation Bible School, for children 4 years of age to those in second grade, will be held June 21-25, from 9 a.m. to noon. Older students, grades three through five, will have Vacation Bible School the week of June 28 to July 1.
Recycling
Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.
All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.
Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.
Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road. Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.
Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts in the heart of Pennsylvania will hold a registration night, for their summer program, May 24, at the Tamaqua Public Library. Registration will be held from 5-6 p.m., at the library, located at 30 S. Railroad St. Registration is open to girls between the ages of 6-9.
There is no charge for the program.

TAHS Science Fair
Tamaqua Area High School's annual Science Fair will be held May 24, from 6-8 p.m., in the high school gymnasium. This year's theme is Right Brain/Left Brain Night.
In addition to science experiments, the evening will feature student art projects.
The event is free and open to the public.
