Local students graduate from Cedar Crest College

Several local students graduated from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa., at its 140th Commencement Exercises held on May 15.

Chelsea Louise Kemmerer of Lehighton graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She did her clinical work at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in the emergency department. She plans to travel and look for a nursing position on a behavioral health or emergency room floor.

Kayla Sarah Faith Reabold of Lehighton graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. Reabold was a member of Sigma Theta Tau international nursing honor society, and served as secretary of the Student Nurses Association. She plans to work as a registered nurse and live in her hometown. She is the daughter of Sonia and Walter Reabold, and fiancée of Zachary Smith.

Desiree Lee Shoemaker of Lehighton graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. Shoemaker was a member of Sigma Theta Tau international nursing honor society and Sigma Alpha Pi, The National Society of Leadership and Success. She is the daughter of Fay and Larry Shoemaker.

Kayla Rose Smith of Lehighton graduated with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. Smith was a member of Nu Delta Alpha national dance honor society and Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity. She was a member of the Cedar Crest College Dance Company from 2007-10, and completed an internship at Frey and Co. CPAs in Walnutport, Pa. She is the daughter of Kathleen Zellner and Robert Smith.

Renee Nicole Wilkinson of Lehighton graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. A member of the dean's list and Delphi honor society at Cedar Crest, Wilkinson was also a member of Sigma Beta Delta international business honor society, Delta Mu national honor society of business administration, and Sigma Alpha Pi, The National Society of Leadership and Success.

Wilkinson earned the Institute of Internal Auditors Award, given to recognize accounting students nominated by their professors for their outstanding achievements and performance in auditing. She has accepted a position as an accountant at Akrion Systems, Allentown. She is the daughter of Richard and Shirlann Wilkinson.

Elizabeth Anne McHugh of Palmerton graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She earned the Nightingale Award, which recognizes the graduating nursing major who demonstrates scholarship, outstanding clinical performance, and commitment to the nursing profession.
