Defending league champ opens with win
The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission's summer basketball league started on Monday, with games also being played on Thursday night. Defending league-champion R.R. Frey Services opened up their season with a blowout victory over West End Fire Company, and BGL Electric routed last year's runner-up Service Electric by 19 points.
MONDAY'S RESULTS
Mr. Z's Contracting-
Phillips Lighting
Mr. Z's Contracting overcame a five point half-time deficit to come back and defeat Phillips Lighting 65-50. Mark Wartman led Mr. Z's Contracting with 21 points, 15 of them coming in the second half. Tony Gomez contributed 15 points to the victory.
Damian Fritz had 21 points for Phillips Lighting and Tony Stoeckel chipped in with 13 points.
R.R. Frey Services-
West End Fire Company
Defending league-champion R.R. Frey Services used a 13 point half-time lead to cruise to a 66-36 victory over West End Fire Company. Ryan Achenbach had a game-high 23 points for R.R. Frey Services. Jason Derr added 13 points and Tom Toth had 11 points for the winners.
Tim Wargo was West End's top scorer with 10 points.
Cuz-N-Joe's Place-
M & M Catering
Cuz-N-Joe's Place edged out M & M Catering, posting a 70-64 victory. Ethan Eichorst had a game-high 27 points for Cuz-N-Joe's Place, and Jon Veet had 25 points.
Corey Houser led M & M Catering with 22 points, and Jarrad Welikonich had 12 points in the loss.
THURSDAY'S RESULTS
BGL Electric-
Service Electric
BGL Electric used a big first-half to defeat last year's league runner-up, Service Electric, 65-46. J.R. Graver had a game-high 21 points, including five triples. Mark Mazur had 13 points and Dave Agosti scored 10 points in the win.
Ron Abdo led Service Electric with 13 points.
Vesuvio's Pizzeria-
Lucky's Deli
Vesuvio's Pizzeria defeated Lucky's Deli 76-63 in Western Division play. Mike DeMarco topped all scorers with 23 points. Carlos Rivas and Mark Scarcella each scored 13 points, and Matt Scarcella had 12 points for the winners.
Jack Buchinsky led Lucky's Deli with 19 points and Jeff Krusinsky had 16 points in the loss.
Guerilla Squad-
Schaeffer's Harley Davidson
The Guerilla Squad used a 13 point half-time lead to defeat Schaeffer's Harley Davidson 53-31. Derrick McFarland led Guerilla Squad with 15 points and Dave Wilson scored 13 points.
Mike Stankiewitch had 14 points for Schaeffer's Harley Davidson.
