Published May 25. 2010 05:00PM

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 7:52 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, along Summerhill Road, about 500-feet east of Berne Drive, in South Manheim Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Robert D. Steffie Sr., 57, of Auburn, was driving a 1988 Ford GT Ranger pickup truck westbound at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the road on the north berm and struck an embankment.

The truck then traveled along the embankment in a northwest direction before flipping over onto its roof. The truck then re-entered the road and slid on its roof and came to rest facing northwest in the middle of the road.

Troopers said Steffie was injured and flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Damages were severe to the truck.

Troopers said the DUI charge is pending blood test results.
