One injured in Schuylkill crash

One person had to be flown to a area hospital following a two vehicle crash that occurred about 2:40 p.m. on Monday, May 24, at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Paradise Road, in Pine Grove Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Charles A. Jones, 57, of Shamokin, was northbound on Lovers Lane and stopped at the intersection. He then pulled out into the intersection and into the path of a 2006 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado pickup truck operated by Kristen Y. Lucas, 23, of Tremont, who was eastbound on Paradise Road. Jones' 1997 Dodge Caravan struck the rear left side of the Chevrolet.

Upon impact the Caravan spun about 90-degrees counter-clockwise and slid about 35-feet northeast into a grassy field. The Chevorlet traveled 40 feet northeast into the same grassy field after impact.

Jones had to be extricated from his vehicle and then flown to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, by LifeFlight helicopter.

Lucas and two juveniles in car safety seats were all not injured. Damages were severe to the Caravan.

Troopers cited Jones for duty at a stop sign.
