Pastors' farewell
The church body and friends of the church of Effort United Methodist will bid adieu to its pastors, the Rev. Deb Hoffman and the Rev. Dave Felker, on Saturday June 12 and Sunday, June 20, respectively.
Rev. Deb will be honored at a sandwich supper, following the worship service on Saturday, June 12. The church is providing soup but participants are asked to bring a plate of sandwiches.
The celebration for Rev. Dave will be held following a single service, at 10 a.m., on June 20. It is a covered dish event.
Both pastors will not be present at the worship services the weekend of June 26-27. The pulpit will be filled by Ken Edwards for the 5 p.m. service on Saturday, June 26, and by the Rev. Robert G. Argot (ret.) for both services on Sunday, June 27.
Vacation Bible School
Zion United Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will hold its Vacation Bible School from 9:30 a.m. to noon, the week of June 21 through June 25. The theme is High Seas Expedition.
It is open to all preschoolers to the completion of sixth grade who have registered.

Condolences
Sincere sympathy to Cathy Wahrmann Tynemouth and her daughter, whose former husband and father died in Sweden.
Details for bringing his body back and holding a memorial service here are still being arranged.
Great need
For the last month that statistics are available, the Chestnuthill Township-based Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network food pantry had the highest number of clients of the six tax-dollar supported county food pantries.
The PVEN served 284 client families that month, followed by the Pocono Mountain Ecumenical Hunger Ministry (239 families) and the Salvation Army (221).
Donations of shelf stable foods and financial support are always appreciated.

Sun Safety
The Chestnuthill Seniors, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church, will hear Ed Jones of Bright Star Home Care speak about Sun Safety at the June 9 meeting.
Also on Wednesday, June 9, free blood pressure readings will be done from 10 to 11 a.m.
School Board
The Pleasant Valley School Board is slated to meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, June 10, at the district office in Brodheadsville.
Flag Day
In honor of Flag Day, June 14, many offices will be closed. Among them is the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging.
