Summit Hill

Historical society

The Summit Hill Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 16, at 7 p.m. in the society's museum on East Ludlow Street. Lee Mantz, president, will be in charge of the session.

Members will discuss the Memorial Day parade, computer software issues for the museum, the rededication/tours of the GAR Cemetery, the upcoming picnic and fundraisers.

Mantz will also discuss Dr. Michael Thompson, a doctor in the Tamaqua area, Summit Hill, and then for the railroad in the 1860s.

New members are welcome to attend.

Water authority

The Summit Hill Water Authority will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 15, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. John Michalik, president, will be in charge.

Summer hours

Parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, are reminded the parish office is operating on a summer schedule. The office will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Representatives are needed

St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, is in need of a number of parishioners to fill its various board positions, namely the parish council and finance committee, the OLOAA school board and the OLOAA finance committee. The only requirement for the latter two positions is a desire to perpetuate the Catholic school. It is not necessarily that the representative have a child at OLOAA.

Persons interested in being a representative can contact the Rev. James Burdess, pastor.

Lansford

Club to reorganize

The Lansford Democratic Club will hold a reorganizational session on Wednesday, June 16, at 7 p.m. at Kelly's Pub, Lansford. Election of officers will take place at this time.

Committee meetings

Lansford Borough Council will hold two committee meetings next week.

The Parks, Recreation & Lighting Committee will meet on Thursday, June 24, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lansford Community Center.

The Community Development, Planning, Zoning & Ordinance Committee will meet the same night at 7:15, also in the community center.

Wednesday evening worship

At 7 p.m. each Wednesday, St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, holds an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief evening prayer. For those who wish to come early, a simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief Bible study at 6:30 p.m.

Nesquehoning

Bloodmobile

The Miller Keystone Bloodmobile will visit the Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008 on 300 E. Center St. on Wednesday, June 16 from 3:30-7 p.m. First time donors need identification.

Vacation Bible school planning

Volunteers are needed for the Vacation Bible School set for Aug. 2-6. from 6-8:30 p.m. at Meed's United Methodist Church in Nesquehoning.

A planning meeting is set for Wednesday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at the church and everyone is welcome. Call Mary Fox at (570) 645-7500.

Gospel music

Meed's United Methodist Church will host a Gospel Music Celebration on Sunday, June 20 at 7 p.m.

Meed's Choir and the Crossroads Choir will perform many beautiful gospel tunes. Following the music, refreshments will be served in the church social room.
