Daniel Schaller, 31, 533 E. Patterson St., Lansford, faces charges from an incident which took place at his residence on May 21 at 4:11 a.m. Schaller is charged with the following: two counts of simple assault and one count of harassment. He was arraigned before District Judge Bruce Appleton, of Palmerton, and jailed under $1,000 straight bail.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Officer Jeff Ohl, he was dispatched to meet a Karen Mantz at the police station about a domestic incident. Mantz told Ohl she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Schaller.

She told police that they had argued, and Schaller became irate and allegedly struck her in the face and smashed her head off a mirror. He then allegedly threw her to the ground, continued to hit her in the face and grabbed her throat and began choking her.

She said she was able to get him off her and ran to the police station. Ohl saw that Mantz had a bloody mouth and numerous contusions and abrasions to her face. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Ohl went to Schaller's house and arrested him.
