Resident of Ireland facing DUI count

A resident of Ireland is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) and other criminal counts following an incident that occurred in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported officers were dispatched to 7172 Seneca Way, in the Pocono Farms development in Tobyhanna, about 8:08 a.m. on Friday, June 11, to a report of a all terrain vehicle (ATV) accident.

Upon arrival, officers were told that the resident of the above address woke up and found the driver of an ATV inside his residence, lying on a sofa, bleeding from his head and arm. The driver was identified as Stephen O'Kane, 24, of Londonberry, Ireland, who was in the U.S. visiting friends.

When officers spoke to O'Kane they detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him. He was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment of his injuries.

Police said O'Kane will be charged with DUI, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
