FT Hurricanes roll to win over PV Black Diamonds

In a matchup of top Keystone Senior Babe Ruth teams, the Franklin Township Hurricanes pulled way for a win over the Panther Valley Black Diamonds.

In other baseball action, the Palmerton/Towamensing Orioles of the Carbon County Babe Ruth League posted five recent wins.

Panther Valley-

Franklin Twp. Hurricanes

The Franklin Township Hurricanes scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and cruised to a 14-2 win over the Panther Valley Black Diamonds.

Brandyn Gatens had two doubles and knocked in two runs for the winners, who improved to 6-1. Ben Stermer chipped in with two singles and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Jeff Noyes pitched six scoreless innings before being relieved in the seventh.

For the Black Diamonds (5-2), Zach Stanko had a double.

Hazleton-Franklin Red Sox

Hazleton and Franklin Township recently played to an 8-8 tie.

AJ Wenrich had a big game for the locals, as he went 2-for-2 with two singles, two walks and a run scored.

Josh Kern helped out on the mound. He relieved Tom Hartman in the fourth and went on to strike out seven batters.

Franklin Red Sox-

Forks Township

Forks Township downed the Red Sox, 10-9 in Babe Ruth play.

The Sox' Shawn McHose led off the game with a home run to get things started. Teammate Brent Getz also chipped in by going 2-fo-4 with a RBI.

Franklin Red Sox-

Upper Mt. Bethel

Franklin was forced to forfeit its Babe Ruth game on Saturday, thus losing to Upper Mt. Bethel, 7-0.

Forfeit rules state that the winning team will be awarded a run for each inning.

Palmerton/Tow. Orioles-Jim Thorpe Bruins

Ty Achtermann had a double and triple and was also the winning pitcher as the Palmerton/Towamensing Orioles gained a 6-5 win over the Jim Thorpe Bruins.

Alec Evans added two hits for the winners, who scored all six of their runs in the first two innings.

Palmerton/Tow. Orioles-Lansford Krajcirik's

Nick Frey had three hits and knocked in four runs to help the Palmerton/Towamensing Orioles outslug Lansford Krajcirik's, 13-9.

Jonathan Schwarz also had three hits for the Orioles while Adam Smiley added two hits and two RBI. The winners also received three runs scored from Nick Fiouris.

For Lansford, Frank Neitz belted a home run.

Palmerton/Tow. Orioles-Franklin Twp. Falcons

Alec Evans delivered a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Adam Smiley with the winning run as the Palmerton/Towamensing Orioles gained an 8-7 walkoff win over the Franklin Township Falcons.

Smiley finished with three hits for the winners, while Jonathan Schwarz, Nick Frey and Stephanie Augustine each had two. Nick Fiouris and Ty Achtermann both knocked in two runs while winning pitcher Garrett Krome scored two runs.

Ryan Sauders and Max McCard had three hits for the Falcons.

Palmerton/Tow. Orioles-Lansford Delrose Awards

Ty Achtermann knocked in a team-high five runs as the Palmerton/Towamensing Orioles downed Lansford Delrose Awards, 13-5.

Garrett Krome, Jonathan Schwarz and Nick Fiouris each scored three runs for the winners while Stephanie Augustine chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

For Lansford, C. Lopara had three hits.

Stephanie Augustine allowed just three hits and struck out five batters in helping the Palmerton/Towamensing Orioles defeat the Palmerton/Towamensing Yankees, 14-4.

Nick Fiouris had two hits, one a home run, and scored three times while Adam Smiley hit a triple and knocked in three runs.

Jonathan Schwarz added two hits and three runs, with Nick Frey collecting two hits and two runs. The winners also received two runs from Ke Koa Mook and Ty Achtermann.
