Golden Agers

The meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers on June 14 opened with a Flag Day Prayer given by Vice President Shirley Pavlick. It was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of "God Bless America."

Twelve birthday celebrants for April, May, and June were honored. "Happy Birthday" was sung by the members and a Byzantine hymn was sung by Alex Shereba. Rose Mary Mikulski was the winner of the floral arrangement donated by Porvaznik's Florist. Kennedy Pharmacy donated birthday gifts.

Three recipients of Senior Games medals, Fran Hager, Sue Dopira, and Verna Lazorchick, displayed their medals. Alex Shereba explained his medal received from World War II.

"Diary of a Newly Wed" was read by Sue Dopira.

Pete Kupec was welcomed by the group.

Hospitality for July is Fran Hager, Betty Marek, Grace Moser, and Norma Lee Burke.

The next meeting will be June 28 starting at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hall in Summit Hill.

Summit Hill

Water line work

The Summit Hill Water Authority will be working in the 100 and 200 blocks of East White Street on Monday, June 28. This area of town will experience water interruption throughout the day.

Summer hours

Parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, are reminded the parish office is operating on a summer schedule. The office will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Methodist Charge

The schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, June 27, is as follows:

Worship serviced will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. A service of Holy Communion, with the Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, officiating, will be observed in both churches.

The adult Sunday school will be held at 10 a.m. in the Coaldale church.

VBS is planned

The community Vacation Bible School will be held Monday through Friday, July 26-30, at the Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, Summit Hill.

Sessions are scheduled from 9-11:30 a.m. All children from the Panther Valley area, ages 4-12, are welcome to attend.

OLOAA sign-ups

Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford, is accepting registrations for the 2010-11 school year. Parents can register their sons or daughters at the school between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., or other arrangements will be made by calling (570) 645-7170 or 645-7101.

Children registering for kindergarten must be 5 years of age by Oct. 15. First graders must be 6 years of age by the same date.

Parents are reminded when registering their child the following information will be required: birth certificate, baptismal certificate and immunization records.

A registration fee will also be required.

School officials note financial aid is available to qualifying families.

Little Angels

The Little Angels Pre-School, which is part of Our Lady of the Angels Academy, is accepting registrations for the 2010-2011 school year. There are openings in the 3-year-old program (Mondays and Fridays) and the 4-year-old program (Tuesday through Thursday, full- or half-days). Scholarships are available.

Representatives needed

St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, is in need of a number of parishioners to fill its various board positions, namely the parish council and finance committee, the OLOAA school board and the OLOAA finance committee.

The only requirement for the latter two positions is a desire to perpetuate the Catholic school. It is not necessarily that the representative have a child at OLOAA.

Persons interested in being a representative can contact the Rev. James Burdess, pastor.

Nesquehoning

Democratic meeting

Members of the Nesquehoning Democratic Committee will hold a meeting on Sunday, June 27 at 6 p.m. at the Lions Building. This will be the last meeting until September.
