Woman charged with stealing purse

A Tamaqua area woman has been cited for allegedly stealing the purse and belongings of a former friend.

The victim, Cory Matalvagae of 22 E. Union St., Tamaqua, reported the incident at 4 p.m. on June 11. According to her statement, a former friend, Mandi S. Gossman, had been at Matalavage's home that day, staying for about one hour. When Gossman left, she allegedly took the purse and its contents with her. The handbag had been hidden behind a sofa, according to Matalavage. Missing contents included $140 in cash, prescription drugs, credit cards, insurance cards, social security cards and a driver's license.

Charges of theft were filed with District Judge Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua.
