Tristani third in Schuylkill Championship

Marian's Nick Tristani finished third in the Schuylkill Golf Championship held on Monday, while Northern Lehigh was picking up wins in boys soccer and field hockey on Monday afternoon.

GOLF

Schuylkill League Boys Championship

Ryan Rhody, a senior from Blue Mountain, parred the second hole of a sudden-death playoff with Derrick Reese of North Schuylkill to win the championship at Hidden Valley Golf Course.

Rhody and Reese finished tied with rounds of 79 during regulation to force the playoff.

Tristani, the defending champion, finished one stroke back with a round of 80. He missed a three-foot par putt on the final hole to keep him out of the playoff.

Jordan Heisler of Tamaqua finished fourth with a 81 and Ryan Laudeman of Blue Mountain beat Justin Fiorillo of Pottsville in a one-hole playoff to take fifth after they finished with a 82.

Blue Mountain won the team title with a 161, beating Marian (165) by four strokes.

Palmerton-Lehighton

The Blue Bombers took advantage of match-play format to defeat the Indians in non-league play, 15 1/2 - 2 1/2.

Dan Costenbader, Mike Englert and Ben Andrews all won by 3-0 scores for Palmerton. Costenbader led everyone with an even-par 72.

BOYS SOCCER

Channing Shiffert scored his second hat-trick in a matter of three days to spark Northern Lehigh to a 4-3 Colonial League victory over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

The Bulldogs' Steve Irwin added a goal and two assists, while Thatcher George added an assist.

Luke O'Brien led the Spartans with a goal and an assist.

The Spartans outshot the Bulldogs 19-10. Corey Snyder finished with 16 saves between the Bulldogs' posts, while the Spartans' Ryan O'Leary finished with six.

Northern Lehigh improved to 4-12 overall and 2-6 in the league.

Schuylkill Haven-Tamaqua

After Tamaqua took a 2-1 lead, unbeaten Schuylkill Haven rattled off the next six scores to post a 7-2 Schuylkill League win.

David DeFiore and Jeff Pearson both scored first half goals for the Blue Raiders. Teammate Eric Bachert was credited with both set-ups.

Jon Nettles paced the Hurricanes with two goals and two assists, while Michael Georgevic contributed with two goals.

Haven's Kenny Eiler, Philip Ingaglio and Jesus Carmona all added single goals.

Tamaqua keeper Zack Lakitsky finished with nine saves, while his counterpart Ian Hower ended up with four.

Palmerton-Bangor

Ben Hagan's two goals and two assists highlighted Bangor's 5-0 Colonial League victory over the Blue Bombers.

The Slaters' Ed D'Amelio chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Luis Galvez and Seth Ruggiero recorded single scores.

Bangor held a 27-14 edge in shots. Palmerton keeper Zach Huber finished with 16 saves, while the Slaters' Jon Phillips grabbed 13.

Palmerton fell to 3-8 overall and 2-8 in the CL.

FIELD HOCKEY

Wilson-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh handled Wilson with ease, shutting out the Warriors, 6-0.

Taylor Farber led the Lady Bulldogs with two goals and an assist. Teammates Payton Marunich, Kristi Seiler, Brittany Brogan and Alisha Bowers each had a goal as well.

Kayla Brensinger, Rachel Wagner, Kelsey Gallagher and Danielle Dooley all recorded assists.

Palisades-Northwestern

Northwestern fell in their Colonial League match with Palisades, losing 2-1.

The Pirates' Sarah Clark scored both of her goals in the second half. Teammate Jamie Koenig assisted on one, while Tiffany Hendricks helped on the other.

Lauren Horner scored Northwestern's only goal at 24:21 of the first half. Goalie Sam Rex made 22 saves to keep the Tigers in it.

The Tigers are now 7-3-1 on the year.

So. Lehigh-Palmerton

Eight different players scored as Southern Lehigh routed Palmerton for a 9-0 Colonial League victory.

Bryn Bissey led the Spartans' attack with two goals and an assist, while Kelsey King and Stephanie Hess both recorded a goal and an assist.

Heather Smillie, Brielle Mackey, Bethany Vincent, Rylee Maron and Corrine Renner all added single goals.

Southern Lehigh remains undefeated in league play at 11-0, while Palmerton slips to 1-10.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Schuylkill Haven-Panther Valley

Panther Valley defeated Schuylkill Haven in all three of its volleyball games, 25-8, 25-16, 25-19.

The Panthers' were led by serving of Tricia Janowiak and Carly Markovich. The two had 16 and 12 service points respectively. They also helped out the offense with 23 and six assists.

Christa Mantz led the team with nine kills, while teammate Amy Yusella had eight kills, six service points, three aces and three blocks.

Panther Valley's JV also won, 25-11, 25-19.

Tamaqua-PM West

Tamaqua swept Pocono Mountain West in non-league action, winning 25-19, 25-18, 25-20.

Paige Baddick paced the Blue Raiders with 13 assists, five service points and three kills, while Tiffany Billman recorded six service points, four kills and three aces.

Stacy Wallace chipped in with six service points, two aces and two kills.

Williams Valley-Jim Thorpe

The Lady Olympians wound up sweeping the Vikings in three games, 25-14, 25-121 and 25-21.

Jill Andrews had 25 digs, Marissa Cantelmi had 15 assists Jessica Dawson had four kills and Meredith Brisbane had seven service aces for Jim Thorpe.

The Olympians dropped the JV match by scores of 20-25, 22-25.

JUNIOR HIGH FIELD HOCKEY

EIGHTH GRADE

Saucon Vy.-Lehighton

Lehighton blanked visiting Saucon Valley for a 3-0 victory.

Emily Mantz scored two first half goals for the Indians, while Robyn Cressley chipped in with a second half score.

The Tribe improves to 7-1 on the season.

SEVENTH GRADE

Saucon Vy.-Lehighton

Brooke Blasiak's first half goal was all Lehighton needed to score a 1-0 win over Saucon Valley.

The Indians improve to 7-0-1 on the season.
