Stretch of Rt. 895 a 'hard' road to travel

A stretch of Route 895 in East Penn Township was closed to traffic Thursday morning after two large slabs of concrete fell from a tractor trailer owned and operated by Troxell Enterprises of Lehighton.
The rig was traveling west, carrying several large pre-cast concrete panels in an upright position.
Two of the panels broke free and slid off the trailer coming to rest in the west bound lane.
A large front end loader was utilized to place the broken panels back on the trailer.
Last year, another Troxell rig traveling along Route 895 lost a pre-cast concrete panel, which fell off the trailer and slid across the roadway snapping off a utility pole before sliding down an embankment to the Lizard Creek.
In that incident Route 895 was closed for 12 hours as utility crews worked to restore utility lines.
Several years ago, Troxell rigs lost two loads along Route 248 in Lehigh Township.
In one incident, pre-cast concrete panels were lost from a Troxell trailer at the intersection of Routes 248 and 145 in Lehigh Township, Northampton County, causing considerable damage to a nearby business and in the second incident, the trailer broke free from the tractor trailer.
East Penn Township police are investigating Thursday's incident.
