Students participate in ACS 'Tell a Friend' program in Lehighton

The American Cancer Society (ACS) presented a "Certificate of Participation" to the adult students of the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant class at the Carbon Career and Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe on Monday morning for their participation in the ACS's "Tell a Friend" program.
The "Tell a Friend" program provides support for women who need encouragement and support to get a mammogram to help in early detection of breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related death among women in the United States (after lung cancer), and the most frequently diagnosed non-skin cancer among U.S. women.
According to the ACS, finding breast cancer early is currently the best way to control it and a mammogram can find a cancer several years before a woman or her health care provider might feel it.
The class members will also be participating in the "Pink Light Walk" today in Lehighton at the Lehighton Recreation Center. Registration for the walk is at 5:30 p.m. and warm up is at 6:30 p.m.
There will be light refreshments after the walk as well as a Longaberger basket raffle and a "In The Pink" basket raffle.
The Pink Light Walk is being sponsored by the Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club.
