Two Tamaqua Area High School band members have been selected for the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, to be held in New York City on Thursday, Nov. 26.

Participating members of the 'Raider' Band include senior Brooke Gursky and junior Steven Christ.

Brooke and Steven will participate in a week long stay in New York City filled with required rehearsals, which will culminate in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade down Broadway and a performance on nationwide television, stopping in front of the famous Macy's Department Store in downtown Manhattan.

Students will participate in many cultural and social opportunities throughout the course of the week including dinners at many New York City eateries and shows at such venues as Radio City Music Hall, where they will see the annual Christmas show featuring the Rockettes.

Brooke, who plays trombone, is making her second appearance with the Macy's Band. This will be the initial performance with the group for Steven, who plays woodwinds.

The Tamaqua Raider Band is under the direction of John C. Potlunas.
