The Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce annually presents a Mayor of the Year award. This year's honoree is Walter Neidermeyer, mayor of Slatington.

The recipient is chosen for exemplifying good government practices, providing support to the business community, leadership, initiative and community involvement-volunteerism.

Neidermeyer is known for hands-on efforts. He has been physically helping to build the trailhead. The trail system is considered the greatest improvement to the community for years.

He is a member of the Lions Club.

The mayor is not only supportive of the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce but is a member of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber.

When a radio station was making fun of the community, Neidermeyer gave reasons why it should be stopped - and it was.

While the General Morgan bridge project impacted the community unfavorably in many ways, he kept the area peaceful. The Chamber said that may have been his toughest job.

"I think it was great. I must have been doing something right," said Neidermeyer.
