Lucky first-time hunter

Nine-year-old Justin Ahner of Franklin Township sits next to 11 point, 150-pound buck he shot on the first day of deer-hunting season, Monday. He hunted with his grandfather, Larry Ahner, of Franklin Township, under the new mentor youth program. The deer was shot at about 8:25 a.m. near the Owl Creek Reservoir. Just a half hour earlier, his cousin, Adam Pretko, 20, who was part of the hunting party, shot a four point buck.
