A driver was lucky to escape death Friday night when involved in a crash involving his car and a tractor trailer tanker along route 309 in West Penn Township. The crash occurred just after 7 p.m. on the "Ridge Cup." It appeared the rig was traveling south descending the mountain when the crash occurred. The tractor trailer crossed the three lanes of the roadway coming to rest on the left berm with the car trapped underneath the unit against the rear tandem wheels. Neither driver was injured in the mishap. The roadway was closed as the units were towed from the scene. Responding was the West Penn Fire Co No. 1. West Penn Fire Police maintained traffic control at the scene. West Penn Township Chief of Police Brian Johnson is investigating the mishap.
