Dinner with St. Nick held at Effort UMC

ARGOT/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS This delightful look alike mother/daughter duo is what guests saw at the annual St. Nick dinner at held Effort UMC as mother, Wendy Edwards, and daughter, Lindsey Edwards, helped serve food, entertain guests and enhance the visit of two other special visitors.
The snow fell as members and guests of Effort UMC attended the Saturday evening worship followed by the traditional St. Nick's dinner.
Tables were as filled as were the plates with a full turkey dinner prepared by Chef Ken Edwards as assisted by many including his wife and daughter dressed like the shorter and taller version of the same elf.
Dinner guests paid nothing, but were asked to bring a gift for the annual St. Nick project and/or put a donation into the St. Nick fund.
Funds realized would be used to purchase gifts for families in need. Overseeing this special outreach project are Don and Linda Ernst. That overseeing includes making the extra purchases, and wrapping the gifts, as needed by the families' members.
The project was begun years ago by the late Rev. Jerry Miller.
Two special visitors delighted the guests: Frosty and Santa Claus.
Frosty gave out snowballs and hugs. Santa also had them available.
In addition, Don Ernst, serving as emcee for the after-dinner portion of the event in tandem with the Rev. Deb Hoffman and her three friends who led the caroling part of the social hour, handed out token gifts to the first person to answer his holiday tradition questions.
